Summary

How can we continue to create when humanity seems to be heading for its own destruction? What can art do in the face of the horrors of war and the rise of fascism? 124 light-years from Earth orbits K2-18b, an exoplanet where scientists glimpse conditions favourable to life. In the heart of this dreamt-of otherworld, a canvas for artists and poets, the courage to face the future emerges.

Looking for Antigone, the latest production by Wooshing Machine, co-created with the Mutants company, was a reworking of Sophocles’ myth, performed by a group of professional actors and members of the public. With K2-18b, dancers and choreographers Mauro Paccagnella and Alessandro Bernardeschi once again bring together a group of performers of different ages and backgrounds, all with magnetic stage presence. Blending dance, theatre, video and music, this new creation is an invitation to break free from the bitterness of reality and resist with the finest weapon there is: our ability to build community.

In Wooshing Machine’s productions, meaning emerges from the juxtaposition of images, materials, bodies that tell stories, and refrains that stay with us forever. Between seriousness and humour, political reflection and poetry, K2-18b is above all a space of freedom to gently reassemble the fragments of our human dignity.

Co-presented with Théâtre Les Tanneurs.

The inspiration for this story comes from a news item in Germany: one day, a father in Berlin started wearing dresses out of solidarity with his son, who wanted to dress only in that way. Working in perfect harmony, Clément Thirion and Marie Henry have crafted a colourful and joyful story about our relationship with social norms.
