In a country house, time is a long wait.  The only escape for its inhabitants is to imagine elsewhere. We follow the course of a life, much like that of conversations. Yet, whilst we talk about everything, it is to better stifle what really matters. Jasmina Douieb examines a family dynamic, undermined by secrecy.

Summary

Three sisters live in seclusion in a Japanese village, mourning the loss of their father, a business executive and robotics engineer. One of them is replaced by an android programmed by the late patriarch before his death. As life goes on, with conversations about this and that, a heavy atmosphere hangs in the air. Only the sister’s avatar breaks free from this pretence and speaks with sincerity and unsettling honesty.

Before our eyes, a ballet of actors inhabits the passing of time. The dialogue of the bodies – some of them roboticised by meticulous choreography – plays on the boundary between reality and plausibility. By revisiting Oriza Hirata’s Japanese adaptation, the director finds new resonances in the play originally created by the writer Anton Chekhov. But The Three Sisters (Android Version) stands apart from the Russian work: the artist offers us a fresh and unique interpretation that echoes the issues that concern us today: what defines our human nature, in a context where new, increasingly sophisticated forms of intelligence are emerging? We are immersed in a strange atmosphere where we no longer know who holds the power, save for the myriad societal and familial structures that lock us in; and where revelations unfold without fanfare. The muted violence is heightened by the contrast with an aesthetic, hushed space steeped in propriety.

Jasmina Douieb, a partner artist at Varia, puts her finger on our relationship with multiple forms of violence: those of family secrets and power dynamics. She also confronts us with the question of finitude and offers us a genuine philosophy of sharing, connection and empathy.

A multinational luxury brand, an eccentric artist and a lavish party. *L e Conseil des Méchants* is a dark fairy tale in which Alyssa Tzavaras delightfully combines the immense potential of theatrical machinery with a baroque world, very loosely inspired by Shakespeare’s *Macbeth *.

Venedig Meer continues its exploration of reality and draws upon the invisible as a powerful source of imagination. By breaking down the boundaries of art, Florence Minder puts technique at the service of poetry; thus, gravity creates light in a humorous tale about the transmission of possibilities.
