Leslie Mannès joins our partner artists
Following "Rituels du désordre", she will be presenting "Sous le volcan" at the Varia this season
This season, we are delighted to welcome Leslie Mannès as one of our partner artists. In particular, she will present her new work, *Sous le Volcan*, in December 2024, inspired by her previous performance, *Rituels du Désordre*.
As a choreographer and dancer, Leslie Mannès views creation as a quest for metamorphosis and a ceaseless movement between order and chaos. Faced with the current disconnection from the living world, she seeks to adopt a listening posture to feel and absorb the world’s beauty, violence and tensions, and to reinterpret them on stage, offering the opportunity to work on them collectively for the duration of a performance. Using dance and movement as vectors of energy and emancipation, she aims to offer experiences that focus on connection, in order to reinvent how we relate to and with audiences. She envisions these stage experiences as welcoming spaces designed to foster encounters and the emergence of new shared imaginaries.
As a reminder, eleven partner artists and collectives are based at our theatre on a long-term basis and are taking part in its transformation. Coming from different backgrounds, rich in shifting inspirations and the diversity of their practices, they are at the heart of the new artistic ambition that Varia wishes to affirm: resolutely plural and inclusive, attentive to interdisciplinarity, hybrid aesthetics, the porosity of our imaginations and the power of our fictions.
Leslie Mannès joins the team alongside Salvatore Calcagno / garçongarçon, Armel Roussel / [e]utopia, Clément Thirion / kosmocompany, Amel Benaïssa, Compagnie Renards / Effet Mer, Jasmina Douieb / Entre Chiens et Loups, Karyatides, Lucile Saada Choquet, Nadine Baboy and Venedig Meer.
Multidisciplinary and multi-format, Leslie Mannès has notably choreographed the music video for “Rive”, directed by Laetitia Bica: Tension.
