A new project for the Théâtre Varia
I invite you to discover the first season I have had the pleasure of putting together as artistic director. It marks the start of a new adventure and a profound transformation of our theatre.
Le Varia is celebrating its fortieth anniversary. Together with my team, we are the custodians of a legacy: that of the generations of artists and audiences who have passed through here since 1982. So many memories, encounters and past moments of wonder… We will not brush this legacy aside. But neither will we succumb to nostalgia. Enriched by what has been passed on to us, we shall move towards the future with confidence and serenity, strengthened in our desire to fully inhabit reality: to understand, to know, to perceive what we wish to embrace and what we shall change, reshape, and rewrite anew.
I wanted to place this new season under the banner of METAMORPHOSIS: taking the time to come together, to set our aspirations and vulnerabilities in motion once more. In these turbulent times we are living through, what can we expect from a theatre? Without naivety, far from preconceived notions and oversimplifications, how can we remain standing, clear-headed and open-minded, attentive and vigilant? How can we stay alert, resilient, and attuned to the stirrings of our deepest humanity?
